Refreshing summer juice

There is something about watermelon that screams SUMMER! It brings back memories of summer holidays and family barbecues – we would always end up with the sweet, sticky watermelon juice dripping down our arms!

You can avoid sticky arms with this delightfully delicious juice!

Watermelon is around 92% water but is also packed with nutrients and electrolytes (potassium and magnesium) making it a tasty way to keep hydrated in the heat. Plus it has vitamins A, B6 and C and lycopene meaning it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and is good for our eyes, skin and hormone balance. It does have quite a bit of sugar so you should consume it in moderation.

Throw in some carrot with it’s rich dose of beta-carotene and vitamin A and some apple with it’s vitamins C and B and you have yourself a juice that is not only hydrating and refreshing but healthy and tasty too! No nasty preservatives here!

RECIPE: Refreshing Summer Juice
Serves: 2 cups
Preparation: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 1 carrot
  • 1/2 an apple
  • 1 1/2 cups of watermelon
Instructions:
  1. Wash the carrot and apple.
  2. Cut into suitably sized pieces for your juicer to process. Remember to remove the apple seeds!
  3. Juice away! Follow your juicer’s instructions to juice each item.
  4. Pour into glasses and enjoy chilled.
Note: You could use a high-powered blender and strain the juice through a nut milk bag or muslin cloth if you do not have a juicer.
